Today,
Retica is the only full-eye biometric technology company, offering the
most advanced and accurate eye biometric authentication solutions for
logical, physical and digital ID applications to government, industry
and business enterprises worldwide.
History
Since 1935, academic studies have repeatedly identified the vasculature
of the retina as an exceptionally accurate and stable source of biometric
information to identify humans. Because blood vessels have the same degree
of visual contrast against the optic disk across age, gender and ethnicity,
retina information can be gathered with universal ease. In earlier attempts
to develop a retinal imaging system, however, scientists confronted several
barriers to universal adaptation such as the requirements for a skilled
operator, drugs to dilate the pupil and the excessive cost of system components.
Subsequent to the pioneering work in iris biometrics by Flom and Safir
and the inventive advances by Daugman, iris has become a popular biometric
measurement. While iris data is highly accurate, the process unfortunately
suffers from difficulty in consistently obtaining a valid image. The iris
is often occluded by eyelids and eye lashes. In addition, data collection
can also be hindered by specular reflections in uncontrolled lighting
situations.
Retica - An Industry First
Headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, Retica Systems, Inc. Retica has
produced the first eye biometric imaging system to successfully exploit
the full potential of the eye into a solution that captures, collects,
stores, and verifies eye biometric information through a four-phase
process. As a transitional or an augmented security option,
the Retica system has the capabilities to integrate iris information into
a multi-modal
solution that uses the tightly-coupled retinal and iris data.
With the system’s ability to collect retinal and iris data simultaneously,
the barrier to obtaining accurate images is dramatically diminished. Retica’s
unique patented technology fuses together the images of the retina and
the iris, thus significantly facilitating data collection and resulting
in higher accuracy.
Inventing The Future
By leveraging the company’s competencies in ophthalmology, information
technology and biometrics, Retica looks to the future with a steadfast
commitment to retaining its position as a world leader in full eye biometric
technology – and to providing new authentication solutions for a
more secure world.
